Maurice J. Forkey, 95, of Massena, NY., passed away Thursday night, March 23, 2017, at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, in Potsdam, NY. Born in West Bangor, NY., October 20, 1921, he was the son of the late John and Melvina Delarm Forkey. He graduated in 1939, as Valedictorian from Brushton High School. He later received his B.A. from Potsdam State University and attended Laval University in Montreal, Quebec. On June 19, 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Grace Woods, at St. Mary’s Church in Brushton, NY. She predeceased him. Many years ago, Maurice owned and operated a dairy farm in Dickinson, NY., and later was a self employed contractor. He also taught from 1985-87, at Salmon River Central School, in Fort Covington, NY. He was a substitute teacher until the age of 81. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Massena, NY., and a member of the choir. He was a 4th Degree member of the Malone Knights of Columbus. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Samuel Forkey and six sisters, Leona Martin Freeman, Olive Benware, Cecile Brownell, Irene Berian, Loretta Shankey and Bertha Seidenburg. There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 9 a.m., at Notre Dame Cemetery, in Malone, NY. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone, NY. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.brusofuneralservice.com.
