Sheila A. Ritzmann, age 78, of Malone, passed away early Saturday morning, April 15, 2017, at The Alice Center in Malone, NY., while under the loving care of Hospice of the North Country. Born in Malone, NY., on August 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John “Bert” and Blanche LaRocque Hatfield. Sheila graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone, in 1956 and also went on to obtain an associates degree in radiology from the Glens Falls School of Radiology. On November 19, 1960, she was united in marriage to Edward A. Ritzmann at Notre Dame Church in Malone, NY., which later ended in divorce. Sheila was employed in the radiology department at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, NY., for thirty-two years. She retired from there in 2001. She was a communicant of St. Andre Bessette Parish at Notre Dame Church in Malone and a past member of the Ladies of the Elks, Malone Lodge #1303. She enjoyed bowling at Lucky Strike Lanes in Malone for many years, being a supportive mother of the Boy Scouts, and volunteering at both the Alice Hyde Hospital and St. Vincent De Paul Store in Malone. Survivors include three sons and two daughters in law, Edward and Deeann Ritzmann, Jr. of Arvada, CO., Peter Ritzmann of Marion, NY., and Robert and Shari Ritzmann of Broomfield, CO., one daughter, Cheri Van Winkle of Centennial, CO., two brothers and one sister in law, John and Marjorie Hatfield, Jr., of Malone, NY., and Patrick Hatfield of Arvada, CO., and by one sister and brother in law, Kim and Mike Wescott of Burke, NY. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by one grandson, Corey Ritzmann. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial at Notre Dame Church in Malone will be on a date to be announced later in the Summer. Donations may be made in her memory to either The Malone Fire and Rescue Department or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service Inc. of Malone, NY.
