Obituary of Elaine G. Tavernia

~Elaine G. Tavernia, 69, of West Bangor, NY., passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon, June 25, 2017, at her home, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
   Born in Malone, NY., October 21, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Kester and Joyce Anderson Wood. She attended local schools.
   On August 26, 1967, she was united in marriage to Frederick H. Tavernia, at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY. He predeceased her on September 26, 2016.
   Many years ago, Elaine assisted her father with his daily milk route. She later worked as a cook at Roy and Rita’s Restaurant in North Bangor and later in Malone. After the restaurant closed, she worked as a cashier at K-Mart, in Malone, for over fourteen years.
   Elaine enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, feeding her hummingbirds, crocheting, collecting dolls and cookie jars and puzzle books. The highlight of her life was her grandchildren.
   She is survived by five sons and two daughters in law, Ricky and Heather Tavernia of West Bangor, NY., Robert Tavernia of North Bangor, NY., Stephen and Erin Tavernia of Bloomfield, NY., Michael Tavernia of Skerry, NY., and William Tavernia of Grover, CO., fourteen grandchildren, Austin, Alan, Alexis, Evan, Kyle, Kenna, Krista, and Caitlin Tavernia, Brett Bouvia, Brandon and Shawn Tavernia, Nash Barse, and Megan and Maddison Fahnestock, and several nieces and nephews.
   Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home, in Malone, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m., at St. Augustine Church, in North Bangor, NY., with the Rev. Raymond Moreau officiating. Burial will be in the Burke Center Cemetery, in Burke, NY.
   Donations may be made in her memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone, NY.
