Dorothy L. Yando, 86, of Fort Covington, N.Y., passed away at her home on May 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.

Born on April 30, 1938 in Bangor, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Evelyn Thomas Johnston. Dorothy attended Fort Covington High School and was a cutter operator at Tru-Stich in Malone for 28 years.

She was a past member of the RSVP, a member of the Bangor Senior Citizens, and loved gardening, cooking, crocheting, Ceramics, and spending time with family.

On July 26, 1958, she was wed to the late Floyd Yando. He predeceased her on April 30, 1980. She was also predeceased by her longtime companion Mervin Bellows, a son Randy Yando, and a brother Richard Johnston.

She is survived by her sons: Robert (Kathy) Yando of Guilderland, N.Y., and Michael Yando of Malone, N.Y., her daughter: Lorrie Brockway of Fort Covington, her brothers: John (Mary) Johnston of Brushton, N.Y., Donald Johnston of Brushton, George (Bonnie) Johnston of York, S.C., and Alvin Johnston of Brushton, her sisters: Irene (James) Marise of Brooksville, Fl., Julia Henderson of Huntington PQ, Linda (Gregory) Stone of Venice, Fl., as well as a foster sister Roslyn Gaetano and her companion Warren Legacy. She also leaves behind 8 grand children and 7 great Grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
