Herbert Esadore Bashaw, Jr., 81, of Fort Covington, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 7, 2024.

Born on August 31, 1942, he was the son of the late Herbert E. and Rita Beane Bashaw, Sr. He was a 1960 graduate of Salom River Central School in Fort Covington and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964, serving in Vietnam where he received many medals and honors. After his military service he worked in construction and then for Reynolds Metals in Massena in the pot rooms. In his retirement he enjoyed working in his garage on anything that needed to be fixed and enjoyed mowing his lawn in the summers.

On August 26, 1961, he would marry Mary Jean Henault. She predeceased him in January of 2014.

Herbert is survived by his three children: Michael (Tammie) Bashaw of Fort Covington, John (Deborah) Bashaw of Texas and Penny (Scott) Premo of Westville, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with his wife, he was predeceased by his nine siblings: Alden Bashaw, Frances Bashaw, John Bashaw, Robert Bashaw, Theresa Drew, Dorothy Tromblay, Janice Premo, Elaine Anderson and Beverly Trembley.

A graveside service will be held at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Bombay on Saturday, August 17 at 11a.m. with military honors provided by the Fort Covington American Legion.
