Obituary of Scott Robert Benway

Please share a memory of Scott to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Scott Robert Benway, 54, of Saranac Lake, NY, passed away unexpectedly on February 3, 2025. Scott was born on January 30, 1971, at Mercy Hospital in Watertown, New York to his parents Carl Harold Benway of Watertown and Patricia Benway Manchester of Fort Covington, both of whom survive. Scott is survived by two daughters Katelyn Mary, and Jayden Rayne, a son, Jaxon Scott, and a grandson, Max Paul. Scott is survived by his brother Michael Benway, sister-in-law Christine Benway and nieces Danielle and Michelle Benway, all of Fort Covington. Scott is also survived by his aunts and uncles; Michele and Craig Osterhout of Seneca Falls, Dean and Tammy Francis of Fort Covington, Robert and Carole Francis of North Carolina, John Francis of Florida, Tzena Treadway of Florida and many beloved cousins. Scott counted himself fortunate to also have a large chosen family, including brothers, nieces, and nephews. Scott was predeceased by his stepfather, Mark Manchester; maternal grandparents, Robert and Eileen Francis; his paternal grandparents, Maynard and Bernice Hall; his uncle, Alan Benway; and a spoken brother, Shawn Pike. Scott graduated from Salmon River Central School in 1989, where basketball (rather than schoolwork) was his passion. He served in the U.S. Army upon graduation and was honorably discharged in 1993. Upon discharge, he attended Crown Academy. Scott was a skilled carpenter and worked construction for over 30 years, an occupation he loved. He recently began working with his son Jaxon, sharing his skills and love of the trade. Scott was an amateur comedian; his audience (family and friends) rated him “mediocre.” Scott enjoyed golfing with his son Jaxon and baseball with all his children. He spent his free time watching football, playing frisbee with his dog and crawling after his grandson. He was willing to cheer on the Bills, but only when the Cowboys were down hard enough. Camp and family gatherings were his favorite places to be.
