Marion Cantwell, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025, in Lake Placid, New York.

Marion was born on January 24, 1934, in Burke, New York, to the late Gordon and Lila (Porter) Dora.

She was a proud graduate of Franklin Academy High School in 1952. Marion married her beloved John Cantwell III on May 11, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Burke, New York. Their union spanned an incredible 71 years, full of enduring love and strong partnership. Marion was preceded in death by her husband, John, on February 7th, 2025.

Marion’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children: John Cantwell IV of Brushton, NY, Cynthia Cantwell of Freeport, FL, and Michael and Jennifer Cantwell of Wilmington, NY. Her heart overflowed with pride for her granddaughters: Alyssa Godfrey of Virginia, Alyvia and James Estess of Montana, and Gemma Cantwell of New York. They were her light, her laughter, and her legacy.

She is also survived by her siblings: Patricia Hunter (and the late Kenneth), Marlane and Denny Oskin and Glyde Dora (and the late Betty). Marion was preceded in death by her siblings Joan Patterson (Warren), Beverly Mitchell (Doug), and Willard Dora. His wife, Cindy, survives. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews that were special to her.

Marion’s warmth extended beyond her family. She took part in Girl Scouts and was passionate about her role as Co-Director of North Franklin Figure Skating from 1978 to 1983. Her dedication helped shape young skaters. She was an artist, avid reader, gardener and crafter.

Marion’s passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of those who knew her.

A memorial service to honor her memory will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Bruso Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone, NY.
