It is with both sadness and a spirit of celebration that we announce the passing of Steven E. Welch, who departed this life on October 8, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on August 29, 1957, in Malone, New York, Steven led a life full of passion, resilience, and love for his family and friends.

Steven dedicated 25 years to serving as a Corrections Officer at Franklin Correctional, where he made remarkable contributions to the safety and well-being of those around him. Even after facing the challenges of a prosthetic leg over the last five years of his career, Steven continued to engage fully with his work and those he served. His unwavering commitment to his profession was a testament to his strong spirit.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Steven enlisted in 1975 and served until 1980. His time in the service instilled in him a sense of duty and dedication that he carried throughout his life.

Steven was a passionate man, embracing his love for various activities. An avid bowler, hunter, and fisherman, he found joy in the simplicity of life’s pleasures. His extensive movie collection of over 3,000 titles reflected his passion for film and storytelling, and he enjoyed nothing more than cozying up to watch his favorites. A devoted New York Yankees fan, Steven relished attending games, sharing his enthusiasm for the sport with family and friends.

Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy Welch; his dear brother, Joey Dufrane; and his loving sisters Debbie Moses, Terri Thienpont (with brother-in-law, Chuck), Roxanne Ignaczak (with brother-in-law, Anthony), and Missy Sandvig (with brother-in-law, Eric). He also leaves behind a cherished niece, Kayla Ouimet, whose unwavering support for him was a constant source of comfort. Steven's family also includes several nieces and nephews who were fortunate to have him in their lives.

A Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM on October 20, 2025 at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service. A Funeral Service will be held at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.

As we celebrate the life of Steven E. Welch, we invite all who knew and loved him to join us in remembering the joy he brought to our lives, his indomitable spirit, and the impact he made in the lives of many. He will be greatly missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
