Jonathan James Landry (Jon), 45, of Malone, N.Y., died unexpectedly Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y.

Born in Massena, N.Y., on July 13, 1980, he was the son of Glenda Landry and the late Gerald Landry. He graduated from Franklin Academy High School in 1998.

Jon was married to his wife, Sherri L. Landry, with whom he shared his life. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Ava Marshall, who was the center of his world and his greatest pride.

Along with his wife and daughter, he is survived by his stepdaughter, Janell Brown of Madbury, N.H., and her spouse, Cassandra Brown; his mother, Glenda Landry of Malone, N.Y.; his sister, Tamara Cowan of Churubusco, N.Y.; and his brother, Harley Moore of DeBary, FL.

Jon was predeceased by his father, Gerald Landry, and his brothers, Jason Landry and Jesse Landry.

Jon was employed for many years with the New York State Department of Corrections, where he formed strong friendships and earned the respect of those he worked alongside. He was known for his loyalty, work ethic, and willingness to look out for others.

Outside of work, Jon’s true happiness was found outdoors. Hunting season was sacred — time in the woods was time well spent, and plans could always wait. He had a special gift with dogs and took great pride in training and caring for his loyal companions, Willow and Jake, who were rarely far from his side.

Jon loved deeply, laughed often, and had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome. He loved sharing stories around a fire, bringing laughter into any gathering, and making sure no one ever felt like a stranger. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be missed more than words can say.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A short service will take place at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the AmVets to celebrate Jon’s life and share the many stories that reflect who he was.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Malone Call Fire Department, in appreciation for their dedication and the care they provided during their efforts to help Jon.
