Gerald J. Bashaw Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on July 4, 1959, in Malone, NY, Gerald lived a life of dedication and hard work, primarily in the construction industry as a self-employed contractor with North Country Home Improvements.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joan Bashaw of Malone, and their four sons: Michael J. Bashaw, Nicholas Bashaw, Gerald J. Bashaw Jr. of Plattsburgh, and Kyle L. Bashaw of Massachusetts. He also leaves behind his daughter, Kerry Bashaw and her companion, Christopher Cox of Constable. Gerald was deeply cherished by his grandchildren, Hunter Filion, Christian Filion, Jailin Filion, Gerald Bashaw III, Lucas Bashaw, Ruy Bashaw, Gabriel LaChance, and his great-grandchildren, Harlie Filion, Eliana Filion, and twin girls expected soon.

He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham Bashaw and Joan Bisnette, as well as his brother, Steve Bashaw, and sister, Ellen Hebert. Gerald is also survived by two brothers, Joseph Bashaw of Burke and Abraham Bashaw Jr. and his wife Lynn of Massachusetts; three sisters, Debbie Parrish and her husband Ken of Saranac, Susan Luuko of Massachusetts, Lauri Luuko of Massachusetts, and Joan "Doll" Bashaw.

Gerald married Joan on October 17, 1981. He had a diverse career that included a decade-long stint at BOCES in Malone, followed by 22 years at Tinkham Property Management in Springfield, Massachusetts. Known for his talent as a mechanic, he enjoyed country music, dancing, and cherished moments fishing with his grandsons. Gerald recently returned to his roots in Malone, where he fostered countless memories with family and friends. After a long day, he would relax in his recliner and toke on his pipe while watching El Chapo, old boxing, and UFC fights while enjoying a home cooked meal.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service in Malone to celebrate the life of a man who dedicated himself to his family and community.

Gerald will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and his zest for life. He will be missed dearly by all who had the fortune to know him.
