David J. French Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David J. French, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully on February 9, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on February 8, 1944, in Fort Covington, New York, David spent his life devoted to his family and his work as a dairy farmer in Bombay, NY, where he was self-employed and cultivated a deep-rooted connection to the land he loved.

David was a man of simple means but profound wisdom, having completed education through the 8th grade. He was known for his remarkable skills not only as a farmer but also as a mechanic, often sharing his knowledge with others. His green thumb was evident in his love for tending to plants, a passion he extended to those around him, especially during his time at the nursing home where he took great joy in caring for the plants.

He was a beloved member of the Methodist Church in Malone. David's spirit and kindness touched many lives, and he delighted in spending time with his family. He is survived by his sons, Wayne French of Malone and Jeff French (Danielle) of Bombay; daughter, Talina Bath (Mark) of Huntersville North Carolina; and grandchildren, Kaela, Mitchell and Jenna of Huntersville, North Carolina and Ian, Taylor and Brody of Bombay. He will also be missed by his best friend, John Leroux, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom hold treasured memories of him in their hearts.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margaret French; longtime companion, Judy Garrow; previous wife, Charlene Blair; daughter, Jennifer French; brother, Carl French; sister, Ruth Brill and infant sister, Shirley French.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff at the Alice Center Nursing Home for the exceptional care provided to David during his time there. In honor of his legacy, donations may be made to the Alice Center Nursing Home.

Interment will take place at a later date in the spring at Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Covington, where he will find eternal peace.

As we remember David, let us celebrate a life that embodied hard work, love for family, and a connection to nature that will inspire future generations. May he rest in peace.
