Darrell "David" Hayle Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Darrell “David” Hayle announce his passing on May 22, 2026, at his home in Malone, NY. Dave was born in Malone, NY on August 3, 1950, to parents Walter G. and Ada G. (Newman) Hayle.
Dave was the youngest of three children raised in Malone by his parents. Dave graduated from Franklin Academy High School in 1968 and completed a year of college at North Country Community College. Dave decided to join the Army in 1970, serving until 1974. Dave was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War as a medic. While this was a trying time, Dave learned a great deal and used this knowledge later in life, most proudly as a Member of the Titus Mountain Ski Patrol for over 30 years.
Dave married Judy K. Hesseltine in Malone, NY on June 7, 1975. They had three amazing daughters; Kelly, Jessica and Amy. Dave was a family man, and enjoyed camping, skiing, boating, fishing, golfing, hiking, his motorcycle and travelling. There were many trips to Florida, Maine, Hampton Beach and a road trip out west one summer. These are cherished memories. Dave never missed a school play, sports event, concert or art show. The love he shared for his family was unmeasured. In later years he enjoyed replicating these memories with his grandchildren. Though Dave and Judy’s marriage ended, they transitioned into a lifelong friendship.
Dave entered the workforce after leaving the Army and worked for North Star Industries (now Citizens Advocates) until his retirement in 2019 after 41 years. This was more than just a career for Dave, and he continued to work as needed in the years after retirement.
One of the things Dave was most proud of was his time with Titus Mountain Ski Patrol. Dave started skiing at Titus when it was still Moon Valley. Dave joined Ski Patrol in 1988 and held various roles during his time. This was an extended family and created lifetime friendships for Dave, Judy and their children. Many days were spent skiing, BBQing and listening to bands in the lodge after a long day skiing. Oktoberfest’s, Spaghetti Dinners and Torchlight Parades were among the highlights. Many, many stories have been told and will continue to be told for years to come. The Sunday Morning shift just isn’t as delightful without him.
Dave is survived by his three daughters, Amy (Ryan Yaddow), Jessica (Nate Pelton), and Kelly (Daniel Boyd), and their mother, Judy Hayle. “Poppa Dave” is also survived by his grandchildren, Vivian, Hadley, Nolan, Porter, Amelia, Ava, Tyler, Jarrett and Saya. Dave is also survived by his sister, Patty Hurteau (Rick Watkins); brother, Gary Hayle; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Hughes, Susie Hesseltine, and Carol VanRiper; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ada Hayle, in-laws, Grace and Robert Hesseltine, and brothers-in-law, Bryan Hughes and Jimmy Hessletine. Dave had many beloved dogs in his life that have passed before him, but most recently he lost his best girl, Bailey.
Calling Hours will be held Tuesday June 2, 2026, from 4pm-6pm at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone, NY, with a service to immediately follow. Burial will be private and held at the St. Joseph’s cemetery in Malone, where Dave will be laid to rest next to his mother, Ada.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Titus Mountain Ski Patrol in Dave’s name. Donations may be mailed to Ron Jeror, 1450 State Highway 68, Canton NY, 13617.
Dave led a life full of love and adventure surrounded by many friends and family. While his time with us will never be enough, in Dave’s own words not that long ago he said “I’ve had a great life with three great daughters and grandchildren. I couldn’t ask for more. They’ve filled my heart with love”.
