~Elizabeth G. Pond, 88, of North Bangor, NY., passed away early Monday morning, May 1, 2017, at the U.V.M Health Care Network Alice Hyde Medical Center, in Malone, NY., with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved matriarch and center of her family.
   Born in Malone, NY., December 6, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie Beane Brooks. She attended local schools.
   On October 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lawrence R. Pond, at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY. He predeceased her on September 20, 1994. She later had a companion, Frank Whitman, for many years. He predeceased her on October 13, 2006.
   For more than forty five years, she was employed by Tru-Stitch Footwear in Malone, NY.
   She enjoyed reading, gardening, feeding the birds and caring for her cats. She loved nature and animals, setting an example of kindness to all creatures and respect for the natural world that resonated with all those who knew and loved her.
   Elizabeth was known for her dry wit, feisty personality and sharp insight into the world around her. None of those qualities faded throughout her life and she remained a vital and lively individual throughout the end of her life.
   She was a warm and gracious host, who loved to throw family parties, including her yearly Memorial Day and Christmas Eve parties, that were highlights of the year for her family and friends.
   Survivors include, three sons and a daughter in law, Larry and Jean Pond, David “Murphy” Pond and Paul Pond and his companion, James Fowler all of Malone, NY., two daughters, Peggy Swiskoski of Malone, NY., and Lynn Pond of North Bangor, NY., five grandchildren, Randy LaFleur and his wife Wendy, Lee LaFleur, Mindy LaFleur, Zachery Pond and Jeremiah Pond and his wife Jennifer, nine great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
   Along with her parents, husband and companion, she was predeceased by one daughter, Betty LaFleur, two grandsons, Michael LaFleur and Bobby Joe Sprouse,Jr.,  three brothers, Wilfred and Wilbur Brooks and one in infancy, five sisters, Florence Beebe, Blanche Brooks, Nettie Clark, Bernice Bain, and Myrtle Perry Blair, and one half brother, William Brooks.
   There are no calling hours. A reflection and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday from Noon until 2 p.m. For the location of the gathering please call her son at Larry Pond at 518-319-4011.
