~Gerald B. Reid, 97, of Westville, NY., passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017, at his home, while under the loving care of his wife, Shirley and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
   Born in Moira, NY., September 28, 1919, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Ruth Davidson Reid. He graduated from Franklin Academy, in Malone, NY., in 1937.
   He served in the United States Army Company I, 105th infantry,  27th Division in the Pacific Theater from 1940 until his Honorable Discharge as a Tech Sergeant on August 24, 1945. He served as Commander of the National Guard from 1946 until 1954. He later served in the 815th Station Hospital Army Reserves for ten years. He retired as a Major.
   For more than thirty seven years, he was employed by New York Telephone Company, in Malone, NY. He retired in 1981 as a Service Foreman.
   He was a member of the Malone American Legion, Malone Fish and Game Club, New York Telephone Company Pioneers Club, and the 27th Division Club. He was an avid landscape artist and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
   On November 15, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Rita F. Ahern at St. Edmund’s Church, in Ellenburg, NY. She predeceased him on March 21, 1990. On October 15, 1992, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Snyder Fleury, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, in Constable, NY., by Rev. Garry Giroux. She survives.
   Along with his wife, Shirley, he is survived by one son, Richard Reid of Rochester, NY., one daughter in law, Chris Reid of Geneva, FL., two step daughters, Pamela Fountain of Eagle Rivers, AK., and Donna LaMay of Malone, NY., four sisters, Dorothy Lancaster of Rochester, NY., Gladys Lusk of Penfield, NY., Helen Salina of California, and Carol Johnson of Rochester, NY., nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Besides his parents and his first wife, he was predeceased by one son, Michael Reid, one step daughter, Diane Fleury, three brothers, Bernard, Donald and Loren Reid, four brothers in law, Robert Lancaster, Sydney Lusk, William Salina and Earl Johnson and one grandson.
   Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 10 a.m. until Noon, at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home, in Malone, NY.. A Funeral Service will be held at Noon in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, on the Child Road in Malone, NY, with full Military Honors.
   Donations may be made in his memory to either the Westville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone, NY.
