Obituary of Catherine Gail LaBrake
~ Catherine Gail LaBrake (Basye), 61, of Malone, NY passed on to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at the U.V. M. Health Care Facility in Burlington, VT. Cathy had fought a long and difficult battle with cancer since 2014. She passed in peace without suffering, held by the loving hands of her husband, son and daughter. We find comfort in knowing she is smiling, sitting beside our heavenly Father.
Born in West Point, NY on March 6, 1956, she was the youngest daughter of the late Max P. and Florence M. Basye (Dominguez). On February 18, 1983, she was united in marriage to Jerry LaBrake. Along with her husband, she is survived by three children: Matthew (Kerry) of Westwood, NJ, Deborah Marshall (Tyler) of Malone, NY, and Kyle (Heather) of Peru, NY and two sisters: Debra Galu (James) of Highland Falls, NY. and Sandra Schneider (Daniel) of Ledyard, CT..
Cathy served her community working as an educator for 33 years, in the Malone Central School System. After her retirement she enjoyed being “Nanny” to her four grandchildren, Everlee and Lincoln Marshall, and Elijah and Addy LaBrake. Cathy loved art, nature, photography, traveling, gardening, teaching, church family, and reading to her grandchildren. She dedicated her whole life to her family.
Cathy lit up every room she walked into with her wonderful smile, abundant enthusiasm, and grace. She will live on in the hearts of many. Her face and memory will never fade. She was beautiful and will be missed every second of every day for the rest of our lives. A lover of nature’s beauty, she will be with us during every sunset and sunrise, every drop of rain and snow that falls, every bloom of a flower, and every gust of wind that blows. We may not be able to see her but we are certain we can feel her spirit.
Calling hours will be held at: Living Waters Church, 98 Route 95, Moira NY, 12916, from 1PM to 3PM on Saturday, November 4, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be held directly afterwards.
