Obituary of Wayne P. Martin
Wayne P. Martin, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away late Thursday night, March 22, 2018, at his home, while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
Born in Massena, NY. He was the son of the late Laga W. and Catherine Martin. He attended local schools.
From 1964 until his Honorable Discharge in 1967, he served in the United States Army.
On March 23, 1989, he was united in marriage to the former Helen Rockhill in Fort Covington, NY. She survives.
Wayne owned and operated Martin’s Blacktopping and also was a carpenter in the winter months.
He was a member of the Fort Covington American Legion and a past member of the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. He enjoyed gardening, caring for his lawn, his model trains, sitting in his chair by the brook and spending time with his friends and family along with his cats.
Along with his wife Helen, he is survived by one son, Keith Martin and his companion, Alesha Earle of Malone, NY., two stepsons, Wayne Jock, Jr. and his companion, Rebecca Barton of Malone, NY., and Douglas Jock and his companion, Kelly Greene of Constable, NY., two daughters, Erica Martin and her companion John Benware of Fort Covington, NY., and Tracy Martin of Plattsburgh, NY., one step daughter, Nicole M. Jock of Bombay, NY., four brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Debbie Martin of Fort Covington, NY., Dennis and Penny Martin of Florida, Scott and Lori Martin of Pennsylvania, and Robert and Kathy Martin of Canton, NY., two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Wayne Leroux of Fort Covington, NY., and Debra and Gary Sovay of Peru, NY., eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Laga L. Martin on November 6, 2016 and Joseph Martin at birth.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 pm., at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home, in Fort Covington, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY., with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, in Westville, NY., at the convenience of the family.
Donations may be made in his memory to either the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone, NY.
