Obituary of Dwight P. McCune

Dwight P. McCune, 69 of Fort Covington, NY., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at the U.V.M Health Care Network Alice Hyde Medical Center, in Malone, NY.

Born in Malone, NY., March 25, 1949, he was the son of the late Harry and Vivian Reyome McCune. He graduated from Salmon River Central School, in Fort Covington, NY., in 1967. While in high school he was a member of the football team.

From 1967 until his Honorable Discharge in 1970, he served in the United States Marine Corp. in Viet Nam.

Many years ago, Dwight was employed by ALCOA in Massena, NY. He later worked in the oil refinery fields in Wyoming and Texas, until his retirement.

He was a member of the Hogansburg American Legion. He enjoyed watching boxing, gardening, working with his tractor and taking long rides on the back roads of the North Country.

On May 13, 2013, he was united in marriage to the former Donna Richards in Fort Covington, NY. She survives.

Along with his wife, Donna, he is survived by one son, Todd Richards amd his wife Susan Goodrow of St. Regis Falls, NY., two daughters, Eileen Gookins Hale and her husband Eric Hale and Shelly Gookins Thomas and her husband Eric Thomas all of Utica, NY., two brothers and sisters-in-law, Drymond and Patricia McCune of Florida and Charles and Joelle McCune of Malone, NY., one sister, Leola Phelps of Moira, NY., five grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Rockne McCune and two sisters, Edaree Harko and Starr McCune.

Respect for Dwight can be made at the American Legion Post 1479 in Hogansburg N.Y., along with full military services from 10a.m.-12p.m., on Sunday, August 26th, followed by a traditional meal.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Hogansburg American Legion.

Arrangements are through the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington, NY.
