Donald R. Dustin, 81, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away Tuesday evening, March 7, 2017, at his home, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Westville, NY., March 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Flora Dustin. He was raised by his grandparents Bentley and Fanny Dustin and attended local schools.
On June 30, 1962, he was united in marriage to the former Dolories A. Dupra, at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington. She survives.
Donald was employed by Tru-Stitch Footwear in Bombay, NY., for more than forty five years. He retired as a foreman in 1997.
In his younger years, he played baseball with the Fort Covington Travelers and also the Constable team. He also played softball. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, wood working and taking great pride in his lawn. His squirrels and feathered friends would eat out of his hands. Don enjoyed a good game of cards and loved winning even more. He was always willing to teach someone how to “manipulate” the cards for a winning hand.
Along with his wife, Dolories, he is survived by one brother and sister in law, Francis and Bernice Dustin of North Bangor, NY., one sister, Edna Carron of Massena, NY., and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his mother and grandparents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Herman, Kenneth, Roy and Ransom Dustin and two sisters, Helen Wood and Marion Grant.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home, in Fort Covington. A Funeral Service will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Coal Hill Cemetery, in Westville, NY., in the Spring.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
