Obituary of Lawrence E. Snyder

Lawrence E. Snyder, 94, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away Thursday morning, March 7, 2019, at The Alice Center, in Malone, NY., surrounded by his loving family. He had been a resident there since June 15, 2018.

Born in Moira, NY., on October 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Francis and Florence Guyette Snyder. He attended local schools.

For more than forty two years, Lawrence was employed by ALCOA in Massena, NY.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington. He was a long time member of the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Fort Covington Senior Citizens and Malone Lodge of Moose. He enjoyed collecting cars and driving them in the local parades. He was also an accomplished carpenter.

On December 10, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Bernice M. Slyman, at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington. She survives.

Along with his wife, Bernice, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Francis E. “Frank” and Margaret Snyder of Fort Covington, a son-in-law, James Mein of Newark, NY., one sister, Shirley Reid of Westville, NY., three grandchildren, Greg Snyder and his wife, Amanda, Christina Lauzon and James Mein and his wife, Christy, six great grandchildren, Leyla and Makhia Snyder and Connor, Brenden, Brook and Collin Lauzon, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Linda M. Mein on May 2, 2008, five brothers, Vernon, Harold, Bernard, Donald and Robert Snyder and four sisters, Marion Fleury, Margaret Clark, and Betty and Mary Snyder.

Calling hours will be Monday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at Noon at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the new St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Covington, NY., in the spring.
