Obituary of John Franklin Chatland

   John Franklin “Frank” Chatland, 92, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away early Saturday morning, July 13, 2019, at the Elderwood of Uihlein Nursing Home, in Lake Placid, NY., with his loving family by his side.
   Born in Fort Covington, NY., September 30, 1926, he was the son of the late William and Lillian Taylor Chatland. He attended Fort Covington High School.
   He served in the United States Army from February 1945 until his Honorable Discharge in October 1946.
   On September 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Marion J. Miller at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY., by the late Rev. Msgr. Edmund Dumas. She survives.
   Many years ago, Frank was employed by ALCOA in Massena, NY., for seven years. From 1955-75, he was employed by Homestead Dairy. In 1975, he purchased the dairy route and named it Chat’s Dairy, which he operated until his retirement in 1988.
   Frank was a member of the Fort Covington Travelers Baseball Team for more than thirty five years. He played keyboard in the Old Timers Band for many years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY and a past member of the Parish Council. He was a member of the Fort Covington American Legion and a past member of the Fort Covington Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a past member of the Highland Greens Golf Course. Many memories were made with his friends and family.
   Along with his wife, Marion, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Tammi Chatland, Eric and Clarissa Chatland and Alan and Eve Chatland all of Fort Covington, NY., two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth Chatland of Cape Coral, FL., and Doris and Charles Trinque of Fort Covington, NY., ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
   Along with his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Jane Chatland in 1955, four brothers, Harold, Francis, Edward and Kenneth Chatland, three sisters, Evelyn Eldred, Mae Ward and Kathleen Oehmke and one grandson, Israel Phillips.
   There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, in Fort Covington, NY. 
   Donations may be made in his memory to the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire Department or E.M.S.
