Norma A. Abare, age 92, of Malone, NY., passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 at The Alice Center in Malone, NY., with her loving family by her side.
Born in Burke, NY., on March 29, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose Cassavaw LaPlante. She attended local schools.
On August 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Clarence “Joe” Abare at St. Patrick’s Church in Chateaugay, NY. He predeceased her on October 28, 2006.
Norma was employed and retired as a supervisor at the Malone Dress Factory several years ago. She continued to do seamstress work out of her home for many people through out the years following her retirement.
She enjoyed playing cards, watching NASCAR, gardening and canning vegetables and especially sewing and making quilts for family and friends.
Survivors include one brother and sister in law, Arnold and Ruth LaPlante of Bellmont, NY., one sister Betty Crippen of Burke, NY., one sister in law, Judy Abare of Malone, NY., and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons and a daughter in law, Charles and Gail Abare in an automobile accident on their wedding day in 1967 and by her son Robert Abare in 2012. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Emerson, Joseph, and John “Jake” LaPlante, and by three sisters, Monica Guerin, Barbara Smith and Laura Duquette.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 11:30 a.m., at Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone, NY.
Donations may be made in her memory to either the Burke or Bangor Fire and Rescue Departments.
