Obituary of Raymond D. Cartier

Raymond D. Cartier passed away April 1, 2020 at home. He was born in Westville, NY on January 3, 1937, the son of Edward and Virginia (Houle Beaudin) Cartier. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia (Lunan).
Ray was an active member of the community, as a volunteer member of the Fort Covington Fire Department for 45 years and an original member of the Fort Covington Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight. He was a member of the National Guard out of Fort Drum for nine years.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Ray loved outdoor activities. He was a 20-year member of Local 106 Engineers working as a heavy equipment operator who helped build highways throughout New York State. He retired after 20 years with the Fort Covington Highway Department in 2003.
He will be remembered for his smile, work ethic, love of puzzles, wood heat and family BBQ’s.
He was the proud father of nine children, 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Deborah (Charles) Mays of Las Vegas, NV; Darlene (Stephen) Campbell of Theresa, NY; Daniel (Colette) Cartier of Mexico, NY; Beverly (Elmer) King of Malone, NY; Shelly (Michael) Premo of Aledo, TX; Susan (Steven) Lang of Chateauguay, NY; David (Judy) Cartier of Rouses Point, NY; Cathy Tull of Las Vegas, NV and Tracey (Robert Davenport) Cartier of Las Vegas, NV.
He was predeceased by his brother, Maurice, and several half and step brothers and sisters.
Due to the coronavirus, a private funeral will be held for the family on Saturday, April 4th at St. Mary’s Church followed by a burial service at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Covington, NY. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends during the summer.
Donations in Ray's name may be made to the Fort Covington Adult Center or Fort Covington Volunteer Fire Department.
