Obituary of Clayton J. Almond

Clayton J. Almond, 83, of Fort Covington, NY., passed away early Thursday morning, July 16, 2020, at the U.V.M. Health Care Network Alice Hyde Medical Center, in Malone, NY., with his loving children by his side. He had been a patient there since July 8. Born in Fort Covington, NY. September 17, 1936, he was the son of the late Jennings and Mary Beaudoin Almond. He graduated from Fort Covington High School in 1953. On November 24, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Beulah A. Deon, at St. Mary’s Church, in Brushton, NY., by the late Rev. O’Brien. She survives. Clayton was employed by ALCOA in Massena, NY., from 1956 until 1958. In 1959, he was employed by General Motors in Massena and worked there until his retirement in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington. He was a member of the Malone Knights of Columbus #308 and was a past Grand Knight and District Deputy. He was a member of the Fort Covington Grange and past Master. He was also a life member of the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire Department where he was a past Assistant Chief, President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Clayton also served as Fort Covington Town Justice for more than twelve years. Along with his wife, Beulah, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Nancy Almond of Burke, NY., Chris Almond of Proctor, VT., and Patricia Almond of Fort Covington, NY., three daughters and sons-in-law, Jayne and Timmy Allen of Brushton, NY., Karen and Dwight Stowell of Fort Covington, NY., and Sheri and Clay Bigness of Fort Covington, NY., two brothers, Alfred Almond of Fort Covington, NY., and William Almond of Constable, NY., fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Bryan Almond on May 18, 2002, two brothers, Franklin and John Almond, two sisters, Gertrude Phillips and Marie Ayers and three sisters-in-law, Gloria Almond, Beverly Almond, and Theresa Almond. Burial will be in the old St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Fort Covington, NY., on Wednesday July 22, 2020, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Donations may be made in his memory to the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire Department or E.M.S. or to St. Mary’s Church in Fort Covington, NY.
