Obituary of Patricia M. Yando

Patricia M. Batchelder Yando, 84, of Mountain View and Malone, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, November 21, 2020, at the home of her daughter, Michelle Langlois. She had been under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc. Born in Malone, NY, on January 12, 1936, she was the daughter of her late deaf mute parents, Clarence and Maude Dumas Batchelder. She learned sign language at an early age. Her maternal grandparents Fed and Zoe Dumas and her aunts Lillian and Evelyn Dumas helped raise her. Pat’s parents owned a farm on the Chasm Falls Road and spent a lot of her time there enjoying the animals. She attended Franklin Academy in Malone. She later was employed by J.J. Newberry Co. and assisting her family at Yando’s Big M, in Malone. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, working in her flower gardens and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed watching hummingbirds and wildlife. Pat loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She was well known for her famous cinnamon rolls. She loved Christmas and decorating for the holiday season. She was lovingly referred to as “Mrs. Christmas” by her family. She was a member of the Malone Garden Club, Malone Home Bureau and the Notre Dame Altar Rosary Society. On July 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to James L. Yando, at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY, by the late Rev. Carl Stone. He survives. She and Jim lived and raised their four children in their Mountain View home for over fifty years. Along with her husband, James, she is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, David Yando of Malone, NY, Mark Yando and his fiancée, Mary McGrath of Malone, NY, and Gary and Roslyn Yando of Chateaugay Lake, NY, one daughter, Michelle Langlois of Malone, NY, five grandchildren, Jared Yando and his wife Allison of Delhi, NY, Courtney Yando of Schyler Falls, NY, Ryan Yando and his wife Leah of Malone, NY, Kyle Yando of Malone, NY and Jason Langlois and his wife Melissa of Mineloa, NY, six great grandchildren, Elliott, Emmalyn and Kiara Yando and Cooper, Cole and Caden Langlois, a niece, Mary Peck and her husband David of Schenectady, NY, nephews, Jim Carrigan and his wife, Carol of Malone, NY, Jack Carrigan of Malone, NY, and Michael Carrigan of Charleston, SC, cousins, Ellen Dumas of Malone, NY, Patti Zanganeh of West Virginia, Richard and Ronald Dumas of California, and Roger Saurer of Maryland. She was always thankful for her good friends, Fran White and Barb Belanga and the great times and phone calls that they shared. Besides her parents and grandparents, she was predeceased by two brothers, John and Gary Batchelder, a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John Carrigan, a son-in-law, Van Langlois, four aunts, Lillian and Evelyn Dumas, Elda Saurer and Leona Sosville, three uncles, Leo, Sammy and Bill Dumas, a nephew, Patrick Carrigan and her in laws, Leonard and Mae Yando. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 4, 2020, at 2 p.m., at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, in Malone, NY. Donations may be made in her memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone, NY. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.brusofuneralservice.com.
