Obituary of James P. Tavernier
~James P. Tavernier, 75, of Burke, NY., passed away Sunday afternoon, May 14, 2017, at the U.V.M. Health Network-Alice Hyde Medical Center, in Malone, NY. He had been a patient there since May 12.
Born in Malone, NY., November 5, 1941, he was the son of the late Philip and Anna McNierney Tavernier. He graduated from Franklin Academy, in Malone, NY., in 1959 and from Canton A.T.C. in 1968.
Jim served in the United States Army from 1959 until his Honorable Discharge in 1961.
Many years ago, he was employed on the construction of the Adirondack Northway. He later purchased a dairy farm on the Finney Road in Burke, NY., which he operated until he retired and sold the farm in 2015.
He was a past member of the Malone Lodge of Moose. He loved to kick up his heels whenever there was a dance to attend. He also enjoyed gambling at the casino.
Survivors include one brother and sister in law, Hugh and Sondra Tavernier of Findley, OH., one sister, Nancy Carey of Burke, NY., six nieces and nephews, Philip and Amanda Soulia of Malone, NY., Lisa Frennier of Plattsburgh, NY., Ellen Carey of New York, NY., Matthew Carey and his companion, Shannon Barber of Burke, NY., and Ann Gelting and Jon Tavernier both of Charlotte, NC., and several great nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Judy Tavernier in 1989 and Joan Soulia in 2006.
Calling hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. until Noon, at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home, in Malone, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at Noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial with full Military Rites will be held in St. George’s Cemetery, in Burke, NY.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Burke Adult Center, Burke, NY.
