Rita C. Paro, 103, of Malone, NY., passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh NY. Born in Mechanicville, NY., on April 23, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Humphrey and Elizabeth “Libby” Cooney Sullivan. She graduated from Mechanicville High School, and then received her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. Rita was a librarian at Siena College in Loudonville, NY for 20 years, retiring at age 65. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Housing Council and the Democratic Committee all in Mechanicville, NY. She loved spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren. On June 23, of 1939, she was united in marriage to the late Robert B. Paro at St. Paul’s Church in Mechanicville. He predeceased her on April 2, 1975. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and James Gavin of Athelstan, Quebec, as well as her six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, and a Godchild Eileen Sullivan. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Daniel Paro and her four brothers, James, Timothy, George and Thomas Sullivan. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Clinton County Nursing Home for the care she received while a resident there. Donations may be made to the Constable Volunteer Fire Department and E.M.S. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
