Leo J. Cartier, Jr., 72, of Fort Covington, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at U.V.M. Health Network, Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, N.Y. .
Born on August 4, 1948 in Fort Covington, N.Y., he was the son of the late Leo and Jeanette Beaudin Cartier.
On July 5, 1969, he was wed to the former Deborah MacDonald at St. Mary’s of the Fort Church in Fort Covington. She survives.
Leo attended local schools and was employed at General Motors in Massena, N.Y. as a Melt Technician, retiring on August 1, 2006.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, was a UAW Representative for General Motors and was a member and past Chief of the Fort Covington Fire Department.
He enjoyed spending his spare time at his wood lot, and was an avid hunter and outdoorsmen. He also had a great love of watching his grandkids play sports.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Corey and Karen Cartier of Cicero, N.Y., and Casey and Tammy Cartier of Fort Covington; a daughter Carrie Cartier of Westville, N.Y.; two brothers and their wives, Terrance and Janice Cartier, Randy and Heidi Cartier all of Fort Covington, and a sister Bonnie Pelliccione of Winooski, Vt; his seven grandchildren, Cameron Cartier, Sara Cartier, Carli Cartier, Lucas Saumier, C.J. Cartier, Caiden Cartier and Lily Saumier, as well as a chosen grandson, Bret Lester; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will take place at St. Mary's of the Fort Church in Fort Covington, on Friday, August 6, 2021,from 12-1 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Covington Fire Department or E.M.S.
