Orin M. VanEss, 88, of Malone, N.Y. passed away on Monday, September 13th at the Alice Center in Malone.
Born on July 29, 1933 in Malone, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Gladys Trimm VanEss.
Orin graduated from Franklin Academy High School in Malone, class of 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1956, and later attended Paul Smith's College.
On August 22, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Sandra M. Monette at Notre Dame Church in Malone. She survives.
Orin spent twenty years as the produce manager of Yando's Big M grocery store in Malone, and then worked another nine years working for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as the caretaker of Lake Meachum Campgounds in Duane, N.Y., retiring in 2000.
He was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 308, and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and his five cats and dog.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Donna and Michael Ahrens of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; his grandchildren Joelyn LaValley and her husband Jarred, Joshua VanEss and Adam Ahrens; two great grandchildren, Lily LaValley and Willow VanEss as well as Joshua's companion Stephanie Walters and her three sons.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his two sons, Daniel in 1971 and Ronald in 2018 , as well as his brother David and sister Doris Monett.
Calling hours will be held from 11-11:45 a.m. on Friday, September 17th at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone, N.Y., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 P.M. at Notre Dame Church. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone with military honors provided by the Malone American Legion.
