Obituary of Dr. Allen M. Dresher

Dr. Allen M. Dresher, 64, of Constable, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021 after a short illness. Born August 19, 1957, in Utica, N.Y., the son of Howard and Marlynn (Goldstein) Dresher. He had a sister Pamela Dresher Wilde, and a brother Andrew G. Dresher. All family members have passed between April 1994 and May 2015. Allen graduated Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science dgree in Biology. Allen also received a Minor in Philosophy, the first in Villanova University history. Allen was elected to the International Premedical Honor Society-Alpha Epsilon Delta. Dr. Dresher graduated from New York University College of Dentistry, with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. Shortly after graduation, Dr. Dresher was appointed to the Admission Committee of New York University College of Dentistry. He completed a General Practice Residency at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital. After a short time in private practice, Dr. Dresher became the Facility Dental Director at Bare Hill Correctional Facility, December 1989. When Chateaugay Correctional Facility opened, he was appointed their Facility Dental Director. Inmates were transported to Bare Hill C.F. for treatment. For about twelve years, inmates were referred by other dentists at other correctional facilities, as far as 80 miles away, for difficult oral surgery. Dr. Dresher continued to practice at Bare Hill unitl his retirement May 7, 2021 after 31+ years of service. He was a large contributor to many charities throughout his life. The two charities at the top of the list were Stop Domestic Violence and the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Malone Lodge of Elk’s and Fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias. He was a member of Temple Beth El in Malone, N.Y. until it’s closing. He was also a member of the Constable Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad for one year. For about half his life, Allen owned a large, rare parrot, a Moluccan Cockatoo. Max was a gift from his late mother, who bought Max for him on a trip to Hawaii. This species of parrot is considered the gentlest, but they also have the loudest scream of any bird on earth at 135 decibels. Al wrote many articles for Parrot magazine in England. Allen was a longtime member of the Audubon Society, and was an avid stamp collector, having written extensively for many stamp publications. He was also a life member of the American Philatelic Society. A Jewish Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 21st, 2021 at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone with Rabbi David Kominsky officiating. Burial will take place at Morningside Cemetery. Donations may be made in Dr. Dreshers memory to Stop Domestic Violence. Arrangements were under the care of the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service in Malone, N.Y.
