Obituary of James L. Yando

James L. Yando, 92, of Malone, N.Y., passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 at his home under the care of his children and Hospice of the North Country. James was born in Malone on January 13, 1930 to the late Leonard and Mae (Gardner) Yando. He graduated from Franklin Academy in 1948. He served in the US Army from 1951-1953 in Alabama as a Heavy Mortar Gunner and then was shipped to Korea. He was a member of the Infantry Combat Division. After his discharge, he returned to the family business, Yando’s IGA, along with his father, Mother, Sister Dorothy (Yando) Carrigan and brother-in-law, John Carrigan. In 1954, he was united in marriage at Notre Dame Church to the late Patricia (Batchelder) Yando. They were married 66 years. To this union, they have four children, David of Malone, Mark and his fiancé Mary McGrath of Malone, Gary and his wife Roslyn (Biando) Yando of Chateaugay Lake, NY and Michelle Langlois (and late husband, Van Langlois) of Malone. Grandchildren include Jared Yando and his wife, Allison, Ryan Yando and his wife Leah, Kyle Yando, Courtney Yando and Jason Langlois and his wife, Melissa. Great grandchildren, Elliott, Emmalyn and Kiara Yando and Cooper, Cole and Cadon Langlois. Nephews James Carrigan and his wife, Carol, Jack Carrigan, Michael Carrigan and niece, Mary (Carrigan) Peek and her husband, David. James was predeceased by his parents, his wife Patricia, along with his sister, Dorothy and her husband John Carrigan, a nephew Patrick Carrigan, his brother-in-law, Gary Batchelder and his son-in-law, Van Langlois. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, snow sledding and working in his wood shop, creating treasures for his family and friends. Jim loved his family and spending time with all of them. He always felt blessed to be able to work with his children in the family business before retiring in 1992. Jim loved Mt. View where he and his wife raised their four children. He also enjoyed the family camp, This-L-Do, that the Yando- Carrigan families spent time at and where they made so many cherished memories. Jim loved his Country, Family and his faith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Notre Dame Church in Malone with the Reverend Steven Murray, Pastor of St. Andre Bessette Parish officiating. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone, with honors provided by the Malone Veterans Firing Squad. Donations may be made in James’s memory to the Malone American Legion or Hospice of the North Country. Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service in Malone is serving the family of James.
