Stephen H. Abare, 74, of Malone, N.Y., passed away on December 14, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Born in Malone on December 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Henry and Ilene Gravel Abare. He attended local schools and joined the Army, serving in Vietnam from 1967-1969. He worked as a cleaner at the Franklin County Nursing Home, retiring in 2014. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Turner Abare, three daughters; Pamela Lynn Abare and her companion Horace Dehaney, Sr. of Hamden, Connecticut, Lisa Ann Abare of Plattsburgh and Tina Abare of Malone, a brother; Carter (Linda) Abare of Owls Head, N.Y., a sister Tammy (Michael) Gokey of Constable, two grandchildren; Amy Hart in Michigan and Horace Dehaney Jr. (Gabby) of Rhode Island, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved country music, fishing, and watching western movies. He was a hard worker and a good father and husband. A private service will be held at the discretion of the family.
