Obituary of Jean McCaffrey

Jean Timmons McCaffrey, 88, of Fort Covington, NY earned her heavenly rest on Monday afternoon, January 16, 2023 at her home.
Born August 30, 1934 in Malone, NY, Jeanie was the daughter of the late Eugene J. Timmons and Frances Daly Timmons.
She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1952, and from the College of St. Rose in Albany in 1956 with a degree in Elementary Education.
On August 4, 1956, she was united in marriage with Bruce McCaffrey at St. Joseph’s church in Malone.
"Mrs. McCaffrey" taught at Salmon River Central School from 1956-1995, enjoying 32 treasured years spent in kindergarten ("K-3”).
Jeanie was an original member of the Moon Valley Ski Patrol, and the first director of North Franklin Skating Club.
In retirement she spent 9 1/2 years as a volunteer for Hospice of the North Country.
Jeanie valued her involvement as a board member for both the Fort Covington Adult Center and Coville Bay Housing until January 2022.
She was happy to continue many wonderful friendships through the Retired Teacher’s Association.
Jeanie will be dearly missed by her two sons, Michael McCaffrey of Fort Covington and Patrick McCaffrey of Webster, NY, three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue McCaffrey and John Sullivan of Palmyra, NY, Mary and Rick Costa of Bristol, NY and Nancy and William Brackmann of Victor, NY; grandchildren Daly McElwain (Daile Mitchum) of Rochester, NY, Darren McElwain of Auburn, NY, and special nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years in 2015.
Jeanie was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Patrick and Gail Timmons and Robert and Diane Timmons, brother-in-law Robert McCaffrey, MD and his wife Christine.
Calling Hours will take place from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, January 20 at Cappiello-McKenzie & Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21 at St. Mary's of the Fort Church. Burial will be in New St. Joseph's Cemetery in Malone, N.Y.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Fort Covington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or Fort Covington Adult Center.
