Dawn Marie Gokey, age 85, of Malone NY, passed away on January 30, 2023 in Malone NY surrounded by family after complications from a medical procedure. Dawn was born on March 16, 1937 to the late Lawrence and Vergil DeLosh in Malone, NY. After graduating from Franklin Academy, she went on to study medical secretarial work at Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, NY. She then went on to work as an office secretary for Dr. Kissane in Malone, NY. Dawn also worked at various jobs including Malone Central School in the cafeteria, and as a high school study hall monitor at Franklin Academy High School. She was a divisional clerk at the Alice Hyde Hospital nursing home for over 25 years, being awarded employee of the year in 1983. Dawn retired from the Alice Hyde nursing home in 1998. Through the years, Dawn has enjoyed playing golf, especially her hole in one in Myrtle Beach, SC, participating in the demolition derby taking 2nd place in the Powder Puff category at the Franklin County Fair, spending time cooking, playing cards, reading, knitting, crocheting, and annual family vacations in Myrtle Beach. Dawn was also involved in multiple organizations and volunteer work including, Notre Dame Church, Altar Rosary Society, Hospice, RSVP, the soup kitchen, Ladies of the Elks, Alice Hyde Hospital Auxiliary, was a long-term member of the Malone Golf Club, and most importantly spending time with her beloved children, grandchildren and grand-puppy Sadie May. Dawn married the late Francis Gokey, of Malone NY, on September 8, 1956 at Notre Dame Church in Malone, NY. Dawn and Francis went on to have two sons, John and David Gokey whom she loved dearly. Dawn, otherwise known as Mimi, was one of God’s Angel’s. She was the most caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She devoted her life to her family and her faith. The most important thing in her life was caring and giving to others. Dawn was predeceased by both her mother and father and her brother Larry DeLosh. She is survived by her brother Barry DeLosh of Liverpool, NY, her son John Gokey and wife Mary Ann Gokey of Malone, NY, her son David Gokey and wife Jennifer Gokey of Pittsfield, MA, her grandsons Jason Gokey of Rome, NY, Michael Gokey of Malone, NY, and Andrew Woodward of Constable, NY, her granddaughters Samantha Mindermann and husband Bryan Mindermann of Pittsfield, MA, Elizabeth Gokey of Pittsfield, MA, and Nichole Engel of Massena, NY, and her great-children Mason Gokey, Kayden Engel, Denali Woodward, and Kaya Woodward. Services will be a funeral mass at Notre Dame Church at the address of 11 Church Place in Malone NY at 12pm on Friday February 3rd, 2023. Following mass will be a celebration of life gathering held at Hostlers Restaurant at 607 East Main Street in Malone, NY, all are welcome to celebrate Dawn’s beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to be sent to either Hospice of the North Country Alice Ballard Fund, or Malone Adult Center.
