94 year old Dorothy passed away Monday March, 6 2023 at the Alice Center in Malone. Born July 8, 1928 she was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Tavernia) Gonyea.
Taking business courses, she graduated at 16 and worked as a private secretary for the superintendent of the Alice Hyde Hospital. She married Gerald Allen when she was eighteen. Moving to Lake Placid where Gerald was transferred by the railroad, she waitressed until the children were born. She decided to be a stay at home mom and they moved back to Malone to be closer to family. In January of 1980 Gerald passed away.
She is survived by sons, Barry and Carmella Allen of Texas, David and Angelina Allen of Maryland, Daniel and Teresa Allen of California. Daughters are Gail and Karl Dussing of Syracuse and Mary Vincent of Malone. She is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Marjorie Taro of Florida.
Dorothy was an avid Catholic and past member of the St. Andre’s Rosary Society. Dorothy loved to dance and play the card game 500.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Albert and Robert Gonyea, also by baby, Charles Gonyea who died in infancy. Her sisters Agnes Lutton and Grace Rule also predeceased her. She was very close to her brothers and sisters.
There are no calling hours. The family will gather at a later date.
