Obituary of Irene E. Betters
~ Irene E. ”Betty” Betters, 88, of Malone, NY., passed away early Saturday morning, July 15, 2017, at her home, while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
Born in Malone, NY., January 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Bissonette Betters. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy, in Malone.
For many years, Betty was a customer care clerk at F.W. Woolworth Co., in Malone, NY., until it closed. She later worked at Pearls Department Store, Grand Union Grocery Store, and Fays Drug Store, all in Malone. She then worked as a provider for children, at Raymond Street Day Care, in Malone.
She was a communicant of St. Andre Bessette Parish, at St. John Bosco Church, in Malone, NY., and a life member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites, taking the name of Angelica Mary in 1991. She was a long time volunteer at the Malone Adult Center and the St. Vincent de Paul Store, in Malone. Betty was an avid sports fan and loved watching her Mets and Syracuse Orangemen Basketball Team.
Survivors include three nieces and their husbands, Kathy and Harold Mallette, Shelley and Michael Gibbons, Julie and Wayne Derouchie, all of Malone, NY., one nephew and his wife, Bruce and Caroline Champagne of Malone, NY., six great nieces and nephews, Nicholas Mallette and his wife, Amanda of Constable, NY., Marissa Mallette of Malone, NY., Elyse Betters of Fort Covington, NY., and Michael Gibbons, Brooke and Oliva Derouchie all of Malone, NY., and two great great nephews, Aiden and Ryan Mallette of Constable, NY., and her dogs, Gracie and Darcie.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her life long friend and companion, Shirley Yando, one brother and sister in law, Robert and Carol Betters, one sister and brother in law, Eleanor and Joe Champagne and one nephew, Kenneth Champagne.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 10 a.m. in St. John Bosco Church, in Malone, NY. Burial will be in Notre Came Cemetery, in Malone, NY.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Malone Adult Center, in Malone, NY.
