On Friday, April 28, 2023, Gary E. Tavernier passed away unexpectedly at the Alice Center, where he had been a resident since January. Gary was born September 24, 1939 in Malone, N.Y. to Leo and Oriana Dumas Tavernier. He graduated from Franklin Academy in 1957, then enlisted in the army. During his enlistment, he was stationed in Germany and visited many countries during the time he served. After leaving the army, he was employed by Taylor Instruments in Rochester, N.Y. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Patricia, step mother Blanche Dumas Tavernier and step brothers Gary and John Dumas. He is survived by his brother; Wayne and his wife Pat Tavernier, his niece; Jamie Tavernier, his nephew; Andrew and his wife Jamie Tavernier and their son Hayden, the Tavernier cousins; Jane, Dianne and Sheila, his step sister; Victoria Dumas Doughty and family, step sister-in-law; Emily Dumas and family, as well as many cousins. Gary was known for his beautiful landscaping and the great display of flowers was admired by many. Gary also raised chickens and loved his cats. He was helpful to all his family, neighbors and friends and anyone he met. Gary always had a quick smile for everyone, and his quick wit and puns amused many and brought smiles to those around him. He enjoyed frequenting Walmart and was known to the associates. Gary had a strong commitment to his Catholic faith that offered him much comfort throughout his years. We would like to extend a thank you to his friends and neighbors for their kindness, and time spent visiting and bringing him treats over the years. Thank you to the Alice Center for the wonderful care they provided Gary over the last several months. Gary will be greatly missed by his family. Rest in peace Gary.
