Obituary of Joan M. Harrigan

Joan M. Harrigan, 88, of Malone, N.Y., passed away on July 5, 2024 at North Country Nursing and Rehab. In Massena, N.Y. Born on August 29, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Elizabeth Pelkey Gibbo. Joan graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone and then obtained an associate’s degree in nursing from North Country Community College. She worked at Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone for 20 years and at Val Haven Adult home for 15 years, retiring in 1997. She was married to Alvin LaGrave on July 4, 1953, at Notre Dame Church in Malone. He predeceased her and she would marry William Harrigan in 1981. He passed on December 5, 2018. Joan enjoyed stained glass, painting, ceramics, camping and cooking. She is survived by her sons: David (Mary) Lee of San Antonio, TX, Bruce LaGrave of Malone, Michael (Alisha) LaGrave of Kissimmee, FL. and Neil Steen of Malone, as well as eight grandchildren and several Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughters: Donna LaGrave and Darlene Jock, a brother Richard Seaver and sister Nancy Miller. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10 at St. Mark’s Church in Malone. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Mark’s Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service in Malone.
