Obituary of Joyce Rita Premo

Joyce Rita Premo, 90, of Westville, N.Y., passed away on July 30, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
Born in Nicholville, N.Y. on June 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rena LaTreille Mayville. She was a 1952 graduate of Fort Covington High School and attended the Adirondack School of Commerce. She was a member of the House of History in Malone and loved reading, sewing and genealogy.
Joyce worked at the Shield Slipper Factory in Bombay, Empsall’s Dept. store, Henry’s Pools in Malone and spent thirty years at Malone Central School as a teacher’s aide. Joyce was also a Friendly Home Family dealer and manager for thirty three years.
She was wed to the late Richard Pelkey on October 19, 1957, at St. Mary’s of the Fort Church. He predeceased her on September 28, 1994. She then married Joseph Ernest Premo on October 21, 1995, at the former St. Joseph’s Church in Malone. He survives.
Other survivors include her sons: James Pelkey of Malone, David and April Pelkey of Burke and Thomas and Julie Pelkey of Malone, daughters: Lisa Procopio of Liverpool, N.Y. and Karen and Shawn Monica of Malone, a sister and brother in law: Maida and Carl Combs of Macon, Georgia, stepchildren: Deborah and Robert Lavier of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., David and Laurie Premo of South Carolina, Steven Premo of Chateaugay, Bruce Premo of Tennessee and Sharon and Fhad Ahmed of Schenectady, as well as eighteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
An hour of visitation will be held from 10-11a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11a.m. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone.
Donations may be made in Joyce's name to Hospice of the North Country, Westville Fire Department or the Alzheimer's Association.
