Obituary of Shirley LaVine

Shirley LaVine, 94, of Malone, passed away on October 31, 2024, at the Alice Center in Malone. Born on April 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Louella Thibeault Brooks. After her high school graduation, Shirley received an associate’s degree and became the billing manager of Alice Hyde Medical Center. On June 30, 1956, she was married to the late Gerald L. LaVine at Notre Dame Church in Malone. He would predecease her on November 28, 2009. She was a longtime communicant of Notre Dame Church and sang in the choirs of both Notre Dame and the former St. Joseph’s Churches and participated in the North Country Ecumenical Choir since its inception. She is survived by her son Mark (Tracy) LaVine of Austin, Texas, daughters; Shari (John) O’Connor of Syracuse and Lisa Lawrence-Boyer and her husband Bryan Boyer of Malone, as well as four grandchildren; Jessi Lawrence, Brian LaVine, Kelly LaVine and Joshua O’Connor. Shirley was a very special lady, known for her warm smile and the kindness she would show to others. She was the life of the party and loved to tell a good joke. She had a life well lived and is finally at peace with family. The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care Shirley received at the Farrar Home and the Alice Center in Malone. The staff was exceptional at taking care of mom with dignity and grace. We are grateful for their compassion and care for mom. There will be no calling hours. A prayer service will take place at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone on Wednesday, November 6 at 11 a.m., with burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
