Alfred W. “Bud” Jarvis, 92, of Bombay, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025, in Massena, NY. Born July 28, 1932, in Chateaugay, NY, he came to live with Earl and Ruth Rowley of Westville as a foster child, at the age of two. He became a much-loved member of the family that lasted his entire lifetime, as a beloved son and brother, and now, a beloved uncle. He attended the rural school at Westville Center and later received his GED. On November 22, 1952, he was united in marriage to Shirley Smith in the Centenary United Methodist Church in Malone, by the Rev. H. Campbell. Bud served during the Korean War from December 1952 to December 1954, being the last survivor of only two men from Westville who participated in actual armed combat during the war, the other, being his long time friend the late Frank Fleury. For many years, Bud was a manager of several Agway stores throughout the North Country and later was a Dairy Nutritionist and Crop Specialist for dairy famers for Agway. Bud was a consultant to Reynolds Metals in Massena on the Bio-Mass Plantation. He retired in October 1992. He was an active member of the Malone Golf and Country Club, where he played several times a week until he was 90, also the Malone American Legion, the Malone AmVets, the Malone Lodge of Elks, and the Zephyrhills, Florida Country Club. Bud was a former councilman for the town of Bombay, a former 4-H Leader and Boy Scout Leader. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Shirley; his best friend, Fred Stowe of Bombay; and several nieces and nephews on the Smith and Rowley family sides. He was predeceased by his foster parents, and foster siblings, Marion Rowley Avery, Earl J. Rowley, Jr., and Jean Rowley Ford. Private burial services will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Westville. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Regis Falls Cat Palace.
