Obituary of Darrel L. LaVoie

~Darrel L. LaVoie, 86, of North Bangor, NY., passed away Monday, August 28, 2017, at his home while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.
 Born in Malone, NY., on June 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Ernest and Dorothy LaBarge LaVoie. He was a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Malone.
 On June 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to the former Mary M. Murphy at St. Joseph’s Church in Malone by the Rev. Gallagher.
 Darrel was employed for nine years at ALCOA in Massena, NY. He then went to work at Reynolds in Massena, NY., for thirty-two years. He retired in 1993.
 He served in the National Guard, was a member of the Malone Lodge of Elks #1303, and a member of the Malone Golf Club. He enjoyed woodworking, especially making trivets out of wine corks, skiing, playing golf and traveling.
 Surviving besides his wife Mary are two sons and a daughter in law, Stephen and Christine LaVoie of North Bangor, NY., and Michael LaVoie and Tammy Fleury of Malone, NY., one brother and sister in law, Earl and Joan LaVoie of Malone, NY., and four sisters and three brothers in law, Dawne LaBombard of Plattsburgh, NY., Susan and Leif Grytebust of Summerville, SC., Janice and Bob Sova of Malone, NY., and Janet and Fred Passino of Plattsburgh, NY. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one great granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
 Along with his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Lori LaVoie on November 25, 2002.
 There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Monday, September 11, 2017, at 11 a.m., at St. Augustine’s Church in North Bangor, NY., with the Rev. Francis Flynn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in North Bangor, NY.
 Donations may be made in his memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country Inc.
