Obituary of Marcel J. Vanier

Marcel J. Vanier, 80, of Malone, NY., passed away Thursday afternoon, February 2, 2017, at his home, while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc. Born in Finch, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Lucille L. Bourgeois Vanier. He attended Canadian schools. On May 7, 1960, he was united in marriage to the former Evelyn V. Benware, at St. Helen’s Church, in Chasm Falls, NY. She survives. Marcel was employed by Reynolds Metals in Massena, NY., for more than thirty three years. He retired in 1998. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, in Malone and a long time member of the Malone Lodge of Moose. He enjoyed carpentry, gardening and camping. Along with his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by three sons and two daughters in law, Darrel M. and Justinee Vanier of Haw River, NC., John and Geri Vanier of Westville, NY., and Marc Vanier of Malone, NY., three sisters, Jeannine Lefebvre of Cornwall, Ont., Claudette Benware of Malone, NY., and Estelle Barney of Virginia, six grandchildren, Brandon Vanier, Danielle Cloutier, and Jennifer, Carter, Kelly and Ian Vanier, one great granddaughter, Emma Cloutier and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Carol and Elaine Vanier and one brother, Fernand Andre Vanier. There are no calling hours. A Funeral Service will private and at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, in Constable, NY., in the Spring. Donations may be made in his memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. or to the American Lung Association.
