Obituary of Anita Goodman
~ Anita Goodman, 90, of Malone, NY., passed away late Saturday night, September 23, 2017, at the Adirondack Medical Center, in Saranac Lake, NY. She had been a patient there since September 22.
Born in Whippleville, NY., May 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Etna and Blanch Roberts Nicklaw. She graduated from Franklin Academy, in Malone, NY., in 1944 and became employed by the Franklin County Welfare Department while attending Adirondack Commercial School until 1949.
Anita was married to Howard Goodman in 1945. The marriage ended in divorce.
In 1968, she became employed by the law firm of Cornelius J. Carey which later became Carey, LaRocque and Piasecki for nine years. In 1977, she founded the Etna Abstract Corp. doing title searches for real property. She retired in December 2005, at which time her son Daniel Goodman became the owner and operator of the business.
Anita bowled for over fifty years and was in the ladies pool league for sixteen years, both of which she enjoyed very much. She also enjoyed pinochle and was a member of the Golden Age Club and did volunteer work for the Franklin County Historical Society.
Survivors include three sons and daughters in law, Timothy and Karen Goodman of Geneva, NY., Thomas and Brenda Goodman and Daniel and Mary Goodman all of Malone, NY., one sister, Norma “June” Weber of Rochester, NY., four grandchildren, Isaac and Logan Goodman, and Daniel and Jesse Shantie and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son, Terry Goodman, a sister Vina Mae Favero, a brother, Jay Nicklaw and a grandson, Adam Goodman.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Notre Dame Church, in Malone, NY. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, in Malone, NY.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Alice Ballard Fund of Hospice of the North Country, Inc. in Malone, NY.
