Obituary of Gertrude E. Phillips

~   Gertrude E. Phillips, 73, of Brushton, NY., passed away Friday, September 29, 2017, at the U.V.M. Health Care Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY., with her loving family by her bedside. She had been a patient there since September 21.
   Born in Fort Covington, NY., November 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Jennings and Mary Boadway Almond. She attended local schools.                                                  She was united in marriage to Richard J. Phillips. He predeceased her in 1983.
   Gertrude was employed by Salmon River Central School for many years in the cafeteria.
   She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Brushton, NY. She enjoyed church dinners, and flower gardening. Her favorite times were spent cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events.
   Survivors include three sons and daughters- in- law, Tommy and Kim Phillips and Terry and Shelley Phillips all of Fort Covington, NY., and Todd and Heather Phillips of Bombay, NY., one daughter and son- in -law, Tina and Kevin Boyea of Malone, NY., three brothers and a sister- in -law, Clayton and Beulah Almond of Fort Covington, NY., William Almond of Constable, NY., and Alfred Almond of Fort Covington, NY., six grandchildren, Colby, Owen, Justin and Megan Phillips and Nicholas and Courtney Boyea, two great grandsons, Keagan and Kadyn Phillips and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
   Along with her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Tony Phillips in 1980, two brothers, Franklin “Joe” and John Almond, one sister, Marie Ayers and two sisters- in- law, Theresa and Gloria Almond.
   Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 10:15 until 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, in Brushton, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Alan Lamica officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Brushton, NY.
   Donations may be made in her memory to the Fort Covington Adult Center, in Fort Covington, NY.
